Last Saturday in July: Decora Day

International Decora Day is observed worldwide every last Saturday of July, celebrating the vibrant Japanese street fashion style known as Decora. This fashion, which emerged in Tokyo's Harajuku district in the late 1990s and early 2000s, is characterized by an abundance of colorful accessories and layered clothing. The style was inspired by Tomoe Shinohara, a prominent idol known for her playful and flamboyant fashion. Celebrations include fashion markets, meetups, picnics, photoshoots, and social media campaigns, fostering creativity and self-expression within the Decora community. International Decora Day was co-founded in 2021 by artists Kamilah Jones and Monique, who also created Emptying the Clips Comic. The day highlights the joyful aesthetics of Decora, which emphasizes individuality through a plethora of accessories and bright colors.
