Warriors' Day (Hari Pahlavan) is observed in Malaysia every July 31 as an annual memorial day to honor servicemen who lost their lives during World War I, World War II, and the Malayan Emergency. A remembrance ceremony takes place at Lake Gardens in Kuala Lumpur, attended by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong (the king of Malaysia), the Prime Minister, and senior representatives from the Malaysian Armed Forces and the Royal Malaysian Police. During the ceremony, wreaths and garlands are laid at the National Monument, which was officially opened in 1966 to commemorate those who died in the struggle for freedom, particularly against the Japanese occupation and during the Malayan Emergency. Although Malaya was not significantly impacted during World War I, it experienced substantial losses during World War II, and the Malayan Emergency, which began shortly after, resulted in thousands of casualties. Warriors' Day serves to honor all Malaysian servicemen who have died in the line of duty throughout the nation's history.
