National Mustard Day is celebrated every first Saturday of August at the National Mustard Museum in Middleton, Wisconsin. This event, which became officially sponsored by the museum in 1991, features a variety of activities including games, music, interactive shows for children, and free mustard sampling along with hot dogs. The National Mustard Museum, founded by Barry Levenson in 1986 and opened to the public in 1992, houses over 5,600 prepared mustards from more than 70 countries. The celebration attracts more than 6,000 attendees each year and raises funds for local charities. The day honors mustard, a condiment made from mustard plant seeds mixed with various liquids and spices, which comes in a range of flavors from sweet to spicy.
