April 1: Pupusa Day (El Salvador)

National Pupusa Day is observed in El Salvador every second Sunday of November, celebrating the traditional Salvadoran dish known as pupusas. A pupusa is a thick corn flatbread filled with various savory ingredients such as cheese, meat, fish, beans, or vegetables, and is typically served with curtido, a fermented cabbage relish. The origins of pupusas date back nearly 2000 years to the Pipil tribes in western El Salvador, who initially made them with vegetarian fillings. Although pupusas have a long history, they gained widespread popularity in El Salvador during the mid-20th century. In 2005, the Legislative Assembly of El Salvador designated pupusas as the national dish, leading to the establishment of National Pupusa Day. On this day, fairs are commonly held in major cities, and a notable event occurred in 2007 when the world's largest pupusa, measuring 3.15 meters in diameter, was created at a fair in the capital.
