Rincon Day is observed on the Caribbean island of Bonaire every April 30. This official holiday celebrates Caribbean culture, originating from the traditional harvest festival known as Simadan, which marked the end of the harvest season. The festival has roots in the 16th century when Spanish settlers established Rincon as a protective inland settlement. Following the abolition of slavery, former slaves continued to celebrate the harvest, leading to the transformation of Simadan into Rincon Day. Festivities begin with a flag-raising ceremony in front of the Catholic church, followed by a mass. The day features numerous stalls offering traditional Caribbean food and drinks, music and dance performances, and a vibrant parade through the streets, culminating in celebrations that last into the early morning hours.
