Navarre Day (DÃa de Navarra) is observed in the Spanish autonomous community of Navarre every December 3. This day commemorates the feast of Saint Francis Xavier, the patron saint of Navarre, who was born in the region and is known for co-founding the Jesuit Order and his missionary work in Japan and other countries. The celebration includes church services and religious processions in honor of Saint Francis Xavier, as well as the presentation of the Gold Medal of Navarre, concerts, and family activities. Although it is an official day of observance, it is not a public holiday, so businesses and government offices maintain regular hours unless the date falls on a weekend. The main festivities occur in Pamplona, the capital of Navarre, but events are also held in towns and villages throughout the community. The feast day has been celebrated since the 17th century and was officially declared the Day of Navarre by the Parliament of Navarre in 1985.
