National Cancer Survivors Day is observed worldwide on the first Sunday in June, celebrating cancer survivors and their journey. Established in November 1987 by the National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship (NCCS), the first observance took place on June 5, 1998. The day aims to inspire those recently diagnosed with cancer, support the families of cancer patients, and highlight the unique challenges faced by cancer survivors. Events are organized by cancer societies, treatment centers, and hospitals, focusing on promoting cancer research and survivor-friendly legislation. In Ukraine, the day was officially recognized in December 2021 by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to address the needs of individuals living with cancer. The observance acknowledges the physical and psychological challenges survivors face, including PTSD and anxiety about recurrence, while also considering the impact on their families.
