November 10: Police Day (Russia)

Police Day, officially known as the Day of the Employee of the Interior, is observed in Russia every November 10. This professional holiday celebrates the country's law enforcement personnel, recognizing their hard work and dedication. The origins of the holiday trace back to 1917, when the Bolsheviks established the militsiya as the primary law enforcement body in the Soviet Union. Following the dissolution of the USSR, the militsiya remained in place until a police reform in 2011, which renamed it to police and aimed to enhance efficiency, improve public perception, and reduce corruption within the force. On this day, Russian policemen receive congratulations from superiors, including the Minister of Internal Affairs, and some are awarded for their professional accomplishments. Despite being a day of recognition, Police Day is a regular working day in Russia.
