Ostkaka Day, also known as Swedish Cheesecake Day, is observed in Sweden every November 14. This celebration honors ostkaka, a traditional Swedish dessert made with cottage cheese, which has origins in the regions of Hälsingland and Småland. The first mention of ostkaka dates back to 1538, but it likely has roots in the Middle Ages. There are two main variations: Hälsingeostkaka, made with basic ingredients like flour, milk, and rennet, resulting in a smooth texture, and Smålandsostkaka, which includes richer ingredients such as sugar, cream, and eggs, yielding a grainy texture. Ostkaka is typically served warm with berry jam or sauce and whipped cream. The day has been celebrated annually since 2004, established by the non-profit organization Ostkakans vänner, founded by Frödinge Mejeri.
