Negros Revolution Day, also known as Negros Day or the Fifth of November, is observed in the Philippine province of Negros Occidental every November 5. This day commemorates the Negros Revolution of 1898, which led to the overthrow of Spanish authorities and the establishment of the short-lived Negros Republic. The revolution began on November 5 when local sugar planters, inspired by revolutionary sentiments, launched an insurrection against the Spanish. By the end of the day, they had captured the City of Silay and raised the revolutionary flag. The following day, the rebels advanced to Bacolod, deceiving the Spanish with fake weapons, which led to the town's surrender. Although the Republic of Negros was brief, the anniversary of the revolution is celebrated with remembrance ceremonies, and in 1989, it was declared a special non-working holiday in Negros Occidental.
