Day (Myanmar)

National Day in Myanmar is observed on November 14 and is the only non-religious public holiday in the country, providing people with an additional day off. The holiday commemorates the student uprising against British rule that began in 1920, sparked by protests against the new University Act, which favored the elite and upheld colonial control. This movement, which involved widespread strikes and protests by students and schools, eventually evolved into a broader fight against British colonization, lasting until 1948. Each year, the date of National Day is confirmed based on the tenth day after the full moon in the month of Tazaungmon in the Myanmar lunar calendar, and it may be celebrated in November or December.
