International Skinny Dip Day is observed worldwide every second Saturday of July, encouraging individuals to embrace body positivity and step out of their comfort zones through the practice of skinny dipping, or nude swimming. The day originated from a 1976 meeting between body positivity advocates Lee Baxandall and Eugene Callen, who proposed a National Nude Weekend, which later evolved into Nude Recreation Week founded by The Naturist Society in 1992. In 2018, the American Association for Nude Recreation officially designated this observance as International Skinny Dip Day. Celebrations typically involve organized dips by nudist and naturist societies, allowing participants to swim without clothes in safe and legal locations, such as naturist resorts or official nude beaches. To participate, individuals are encouraged to follow guidelines, including checking local laws on public nudity, selecting appropriate locations, and respecting others' privacy.
