September 21: Zero Emissions Day

Zero Emissions Day, also known as ZeDay, is observed worldwide every September 21. The event promotes the idea of "Giving our planet a day off a year," encouraging people to reduce gas emissions. The concept was initiated by Ken Wallace from Nova Scotia, Canada, who was inspired by the sight of a parked idling truck while walking with his newborn daughter. Although an early attempt to promote the event in the 1980s did not gain traction, it was successfully revived with the rise of social media. The modern observance was established in 2008, and the campaign's message is available in 12 languages, including Arabic, Chinese, and Spanish, to highlight the global issue of gas emissions.
