Heroes and Forefathers Day is observed in the British Virgin Islands every third Monday of October. Established in 2021, this public holiday replaced Saint Ursula’s Day to better reflect the territory's history and culture. The day is dedicated to recognizing the contributions of outstanding Virgin Islanders who have played significant roles in the development of the territory. The British Virgin Islands, an archipelago in the Caribbean Sea, have a rich history, having been discovered by Christopher Columbus in 1493 and later becoming a British Overseas Territory. The holiday is part of a broader reform of public holidays in the territory, which also includes the renaming of other holidays to honor local heritage.
