Record Store Day is celebrated worldwide on every third Saturday of April, focusing on the culture of independently owned record stores. Conceived in 2007 during a meeting of record store owners in Baltimore, Maryland, the first event took place in 2008, officially launched by Metallica at Rasputin Music in Mountain View, California. The observance involves special parties at record stores, where musicians make appearances, hold meet and greets, and perform for fans. Notable musicians such as Ozzy Osbourne, Iggy Pop, and Jack White have served as official ambassadors for the day. A key tradition of Record Store Day is the release of special CD and vinyl editions, with the number of unique releases and surprise artist appearances increasing each year. Approximately 300 stores participated in the inaugural event, including Vintage Vinyl and Waterloo Records.
