Neighbor Day is observed in Kyiv, Ukraine, on the third Saturday of May. This holiday was established by the Kyiv City Council in December 2018, inspired by the European Neighbors’ Day initiative launched in Paris in 1999. The celebration aims to combat social isolation and strengthen community ties among residents in urban areas, where social connections often weaken due to busy lifestyles. Activities during Neighbor Day include concerts, fairs, picnics, barbecues, and festivals, with both city administration and local residents encouraged to participate in organizing events. The holiday was strategically scheduled to coincide with Europe Day, which was previously celebrated on the same date, to enhance community engagement. Although Ukrainian Europe Day was moved to May 9 in 2023, Neighbor Day continues to be celebrated on its original date.
