Science Day in Ukraine is celebrated on the third Saturday in May and was officially established by President Leonid Kuchma in 1997. This nationwide event honors scientists and scientific workers, marking the contributions of modern Ukrainian science, which began in the 17th century with the founding of the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy. The National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine was established in 1918 by the prominent scientist Vladimir Vernadsky. Celebrations typically include ceremonial meetings, public speeches, science project demonstrations, scientific conferences, competitions, debates, discussions, and lectures across various educational institutions. Prizes and certificates are awarded to scientists and students for their achievements in scientific contests. Despite facing challenges due to a lack of funding, Ukrainian scientists continue to strive for excellence and deserve recognition for their efforts.
