The Day of Inventors and Innovators is observed in Tajikistan every third Sunday of August. This official professional holiday celebrates the contributions of inventors and innovators, with its origins tracing back to the late 1950s when it was initiated by the Academy of Sciences of the Soviet Union. The holiday gained official status in 1979 and was originally celebrated on the last Saturday of June. Following the dissolution of the Soviet Union, Tajikistan adopted the current date for the celebration. On this day, distinguished Tajikistani inventors and innovators are recognized with certificates and valuable gifts, and the event features conferences, competitions, and other professional activities. The National Patent and Information Center (NPIC) plays a crucial role in supporting inventors by issuing patents and registering trademarks, having been established in 1993. The holiday highlights the importance of intellectual property rights, with Tajikistan joining the World Intellectual Property Organization in 1994.
