National Thai Textile Day, observed in Thailand every August 12, celebrates the country’s rich textile industry and honors Queen Mother Sirikit for her contributions to its modernization. The day highlights the long-standing tradition of creating unique cotton and silk textiles, which reflect the diverse cultural identities of various Thai communities. The textile industry in Thailand has grown significantly, employing around 500,000 workers across more than 4,800 local manufacturers, and encompasses the entire value chain from raw materials to finished products. Celebrations began in 2022, coinciding with Queen Sirikit’s 90th birthday, and include events such as textile exhibitions, with royal attendance. The day also aligns with Mother’s Day in Thailand, further emphasizing its cultural significance.
