Acevague is an a-spec (asexual spectrum) orientation that is influenced partially or fully by an individual’s neurodivergence. This can include conditions such as autism that impact one’s experience of sexual attraction, making it feel vague or difficult to define. Acevague can be used as a standalone identity or as an umbrella term for various orientations affected by neurodivergence. The romantic counterpart of this term is arovague.

Max identifies as acevague and has found that their neurodivergence, specifically autism, plays a significant role in shaping their experience of attraction. Max often feels unsure whether the feelings they have for others are truly sexual or just deep admiration stemming from intense interests or connections. One day, after reading about different asexual identities, Max came across acevague and felt an immediate connection. “It’s like there’s a fog over what I feel, influenced by how I process the world,” Max explained to their close friend. This term helped Max make sense of why their attraction felt so indistinct compared to their peers. It also gave them the language to articulate that their asexual experience was intertwined with their neurodivergence. Embracing the acevague identity allowed Max to feel validated and accepted without needing to fit neatly into more defined labels. They found peace in recognizing that the blend of their neurodivergence and asexuality created a unique but real experience of attraction. This understanding also provided Max with the confidence to share their story and connect with others who experienced similar feelings.
