Local Communities Day is observed in Kyrgyzstan on every last Sunday of October. Established in 2003, this official holiday aims to highlight issues related to local self-government, which began developing after the dissolution of the Soviet Union. The foundation of local self-government in Kyrgyzstan was marked by the adoption of the Law “On Local Self-Government in the Kyrgyz Republic” in 1991, and further outlined in the Constitution adopted in 1993. The Association of Local Self-Government Bodies, founded in 1996, plays a significant role in promoting local governance in the country. The holiday serves to commemorate these developments and the ongoing efforts to strengthen local self-governance in Kyrgyzstan.
