All Saints' Day is celebrated in Colombia on the Monday following November 1. This holiday, also known as All Hallows' Day, Solemnity of All Saints, or Hallowmas, is one of six Holy Days of Obligation for Catholics, requiring attendance at mass. Many Protestant denominations also observe the day according to their traditions. Colombians typically honor deceased loved ones by placing lit candles, flowers, and decorations on their graves. The celebration includes reading the Beatitudes, and in recent years, churches have begun to commemorate individuals who have passed away throughout the year. The evening before All Saints' Day, it has become customary to burn candles on graves.
