First Sunday in November: Social Workers’ Day (Ukraine)

Social Workers’ Day is observed in Ukraine every first Sunday of November. Established in 1999 by President Leonid Kuchma, this official professional holiday recognizes the contributions of social workers who enhance the quality of life for individuals, families, and communities. The Ukrainian social worker community includes around 150,000 individuals employed by the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy, regional social protection directorates, the National Employment Service, and the Pension Fund, among others. On this day, social workers receive congratulations from their superiors and government officials, with some being honored with special awards for their dedication and achievements. Unlike most professional holidays in Ukraine, which are typically working days, Social Workers’ Day falls on a weekend, making it a non-working day for many.
